Itinerary

Day01

Marrakech → High Atlas → Draa Valley → Zagora

Departure from Marrakech, crossing the High Atlas Mountains via Tizi n'Tichka Pass with panoramic views. After Ouarzazate, visit a stromatolite site — one of the earliest forms of life on Earth. Continue through desert landscapes to the Draa Valley, known for its palm groves and ksour. Arrival in Zagora for dinner and overnight.

Day02

Zagora → Anti-Atlas → Alnif

Journey through the Anti-Atlas Mountains, exploring fossil-rich Ordovician formations where trilobites and marine fossils can be found. Pass through traditional Berber villages before arriving in Alnif. Free time to explore local fossil workshops. Overnight stay.

Day03

Alnif → Issoumour → Merzouga

Drive to the famous Issoumour trilobite site, one of Morocco's most important fossil locations. Continue via Rissani with its traditional markets and palm groves. Arrival in Merzouga near the Erg Chebbi dunes. Sunset views over the Sahara. Overnight in a hotel.

Day04

Merzouga → Kem Kem → Desert Camp

Optional sunrise near the dunes. Explore the Kem Kem fossil beds, famous for dinosaur remains and prehistoric species. In the afternoon, visit Khamlia village for Gnawa music. Camel trek across the dunes and overnight in a desert camp.

Day05

Merzouga → Todgha Gorges → Rose Valley

Departure towards Todgha Gorges, one of Morocco's most impressive canyons. Walk through the gorge and continue through the Valley of Roses, known for its kasbahs and agricultural landscapes. Overnight stay in the valley.

Day06

Rose Valley → Ouarzazate → Ait Ben Haddou → Marrakech

Drive to Ouarzazate and continue to Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore the ancient ksar before crossing the High Atlas Mountains back to Marrakech. End of the tour.

Day01

Arrival in Marrakech

Arrival at Marrakech airport. Meet and transfer to your hotel or riad. Free time depending on arrival. Overnight in Marrakech.

Day02

Marrakech → Sidi Rahhal → Ouarzazate

Departure across the High Atlas Mountains via Tizi n'Tichka Pass. Stop at Sidi Rahal mining area, known for quartz, agate, chalcedony and amethyst. Picnic with local miners and continue to Ouarzazate. Overnight stay.

Day03

Ouarzazate → Fezouata → Alnif

Drive towards the Anti-Atlas region. Visit the famous Fezouata fossil formation, one of the most important Ordovician sites in the world. Explore marine fossil layers before continuing to Alnif. Overnight in hotel.

Day04

Alnif → Tiskawine → Latchana → Issoumour → Ofaten

Full day of fossil exploration. Visit Tiskawine mountain (rich in trilobites), Latchana, and Issoumour, one of Morocco's most important trilobite sites. Continue to Ofaten for additional fossil discoveries. Return to Alnif. Overnight.

Day05

Alnif → Tafraoute Sidi Ali → Mharech → Lamrakib → Tafraoute

Drive into remote desert areas. Visit Tafraoute Sidi Ali fossil sites, then continue off-road through Mharech and Lamrakib, exploring untouched landscapes and fossil areas. Overnight in a guesthouse.

Day06

Tafraoute → Lbegaa → Kem Kem → Filon 12 & 13 → Merzouga

Continue towards Lbegaa and explore the famous Kem Kem Beds, rich in dinosaur fossils (Spinosaurus), crocodile teeth and prehistoric fish. Visit Filon 12 and Filon 13 mines, known for vanadinite and quartz. Arrival in Merzouga. Optional sunset at the dunes. Overnight.

Day07

Merzouga → Rissani → Lamdour → Boutchrafine → Erfoud

Explore the Merzouga region. Visit Rissani market, then continue to Lamdour and Boutchrafine, famous for Devonian trilobites. Visit fossil workshops in Erfoud. Overnight stay.

Day08

Erfoud → Midelt → Mibladen → Fes

Departure towards Midelt. Visit Mibladen mines, known for baryte and mineral specimens. Continue through the Middle Atlas Mountains to Fes. End of the tour.

Itinerary

Day01

Marrakech → High Atlas → Sidi Rahal → Ouarzazate

Cross the High Atlas via Tizi n'Tichka Pass. Stop at Sidi Rahal mining area for quartz, chalcedony, agate and amethyst. Picnic with local miners and discover traditional extraction methods. Continue to Ouarzazate for dinner and overnight.

Day02

Ouarzazate → Draa Valley → Beni Zoli → Alnif

Drive through the scenic Draa Valley with its palm groves and kasbahs. Stop at Beni Zoli, an Ordovician fossil site rich in large trilobites. Continue to the Silurian site of Serradrar to collect orthoceras fossils. Arrival in Alnif overnight.

Day03

Alnif → Cambrian & Ordovician sites

Full day exploring fossil sites around Alnif. Visit Cambrian layers known for large yellow trilobites. Continue to Jbel Tiskaouine, famous for calymene and flexicalymene trilobites. Return to Alnif for overnight.

Day04

Alnif → Taouz → Kem Kem → Merzouga

Travel south to Taouz and explore the famous Kem Kem Beds — Spinosaurus remains, crocodile teeth and fish fossils. Continue to Boutariyt for echinoderms, then visit Filon 12 mine (vanadinite, quartz, goethite). Stop at Mifis mine before arriving in Merzouga. Overnight in hotel.

Day05

Merzouga region exploration

Visit Azourz to collect Devonian pyritized goniatites and Tisket for trilobites. Discover an active baryte mine and enjoy a picnic in a desert oasis. Afternoon: collect gypsum desert roses and fossil bone fragments. Return to the hotel in Merzouga.

Day06

Merzouga → Ziz Valley → Midelt

Stop in the Ziz Valley to collect Cretaceous fossils (echinoderms). Continue to the Ziz Gorges for Jurassic brachiopods and bivalves. Visit the famous Ahouli and Mibladen mines (baryte, galena, vanadinite). Overnight in Midelt.

Day07

Midelt → Todgha Gorges → Dades Valley → Ouarzazate

Drive back towards Ouarzazate, stopping at Todgha Gorges for a walk through the canyon. Continue to Dades Valley for lunch and scenic views of rock formations and kasbahs. Arrival in Ouarzazate overnight.

Day08

Ouarzazate → Marrakech / Airport Transfer

Transfer back to Marrakech or to the airport depending on your departure time. End of the tour.

Arrival in Casablanca

Welcome at Casablanca Airport and transfer to your hotel. Optional short introduction tour of Casablanca's main highlights. Overnight in Casablanca.

Day02

Casablanca → Azrou → Timahdite → Midelt

Cross the Middle Atlas Mountains through cedar forests where Barbary macaques can often be seen. Visit the volcanic area of Michlifen, known for olivine and basaltic rocks. Explore Jurassic fossil sites near Timahdite. Dinner and overnight in Midelt.

Day03

Midelt → Mibladen → Sidi Ayad → Midelt

Visit the famous Mibladen mining district (baryte, cerussite, vanadinite). Explore the historic Ahouli mines. Afternoon at Sidi Ayad for azurite, malachite and fluorite. Return to Midelt overnight.

Day04

Midelt → Ziz Valley → Erfoud → Merzouga (Erg Chebbi)

Travel through the Ziz Gorges and Valley with stops to explore Jurassic and Cretaceous fossil sites — marine fossils and shark teeth. Continue to Erfoud and the dunes of Erg Chebbi. Camel trek at sunset and overnight in a desert camp.

Day05

Merzouga → Mifis → Kem Kem → Filon 12 → Filon 13

Visit Mifis mine (manganese, baryte). Explore the famous Kemkem fossil beds — fish, crocodiles, dinosaurs. Continue to Filon 12 (vanadinite, quartz). Return to Merzouga for overnight.

Day06

Merzouga → Northern Fossil Sites → Sefsaf

Explore fossil sites north of Merzouga, searching for goniatites and Devonian trilobites. Lunch in an oasis. Visit the Sefsaf area, known for Cretaceous fossils including crocodile and dinosaur remains. Return to Merzouga.

Day07

Merzouga → Erfoud → Boutchrafine → Alnif

Visit fossil workshops in Erfoud to observe how fossil slabs become decorative pieces. Continue to Boutchrafine, a well-known trilobite site. Drive to Alnif for dinner and overnight.

Day08

Alnif → Cambrian & Ordovician fossil sites

Full day exploring the fossil-rich region around Alnif. Visit Cambrian and Ordovician sites where large trilobites such as Paradoxides can be found. Explore Jbel Tiskaouine for Flexicalymene trilobites. Return to Alnif.

Day09

Alnif → Draa Valley → Ouarzazate

Departure from Alnif towards the Draa Valley, passing through palm groves, traditional villages and desert landscapes. Several scenic stops along the way. Arrival in Ouarzazate in the afternoon. Overnight stay.

Departure from Casablanca towards the Middle Atlas. Stop in Azrou cedar forest to see Barbary macaques. Continue to Michlifen, an extinct volcano known for olivine. Explore Jurassic fossil sites near Timahdite (brachiopods, bivalves). Optional Cretaceous shark teeth site near Bakrit. Overnight in Midelt.

Day02

Midelt → Mibladen → Ahouli → Sidi Ayad

Full day at the Mibladen mining district (baryte, cerussite, vanadinite). Visit the historic Ahouli mine and its old infrastructure. Picnic in the valley. Continue to Sidi Ayad to collect azurite, malachite and fluorite. Return to Midelt.

Day03

Midelt → Ziz Gorges → Erfoud → Merzouga

Drive through Ziz Gorges to collect Jurassic fossils (brachiopods, bivalves). Continue to Ziz Valley for Cretaceous fossils such as echinoderms (cidaris, micraster). Continue to Erfoud and Merzouga. Overnight near the dunes.

Day04

Merzouga → Mifis → Kem Kem → Filon 12 & 13

Visit Mifis mine (baryte, manganese). Explore the Kem Kem Beds — Spinosaurus, crocodiles, fish fossils. Visit Filon 12 mine (vanadinite, quartz, citrine). Explore Devonian beds with trilobites. Return to Merzouga.

Day05

Merzouga region exploration

Explore fossil sites north of Merzouga. Collect Devonian goniatites and trilobites. Visit desert rose formations. Picnic in a desert oasis. Afternoon exploration of Safsaf Cretaceous site with dinosaur and crocodile remains. Return to Merzouga.

Day06

Merzouga → Erfoud → Boutchrafine → Alnif

Visit fossil quarries near Erfoud and observe fossil preparation workshops. Continue to Boutchrafine mountain (Devonian trilobites). Drive to Alnif. Overnight.

Day07

Alnif → Cambrian & Ordovician sites

Explore Cambrian sites known for large trilobites (Paradoxides, Cambropallas). Visit Jbel Tiskaouine for Ordovician trilobites (calymene, flexicalymene). Return to Alnif.

Day08

Alnif → Issoumour → Latchana → Mharech

Visit Issoumour, one of the most famous trilobite sites in Morocco. Continue to Latchana for additional trilobite varieties. Afternoon collection of pyritized fossils (Lakrabis). Continue to Mharech. Overnight in a guesthouse.

Day09

Mharech → Serrdrar → Draa Valley → Ouarzazate

Drive towards Serradrar (Silurian site rich in orthoceras fossils). Continue through the Draa Valley, known for its landscapes and Ordovician trilobite remains. Arrival in Ouarzazate.

Day10

Ouarzazate → Ait Ben Haddou → Eocene sites

Visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Ben Haddou. Continue to nearby Eocene fossil sites to collect echinoderms, nautiloids and marine fossils. Return to Ouarzazate.

Day11

Ouarzazate → High Atlas → Sidi Rahal → Marrakech

Cross the High Atlas Mountains via Tizi n'Tichka Pass. Stop at Sidi Rahal mine (amethyst, agate, chalcedony). Picnic with local miners. Continue to Marrakech. Overnight.

Day12

Marrakech free day

Free day to explore Marrakech, visit the Medina, souks, or relax. Optional guided city tour available.

Day13

Marrakech → Phosphate Basin → Casablanca

Visit Morocco's phosphate region, famous for fossil shark teeth and marine fossils. Picnic near the mines and fossil collection opportunity. Continue to Casablanca. Overnight.
